Shawn McCarty joined the Textile Museum of Canada in mid-2012 as the TMC's first ever Innovation Lead. His initial role entailed designing and leading tech-infused walking tours for the critically-renowned TXTilecity program. His ongoing function is to move the museum forward, digitally, pedagogically, and within Toronto’s larger heritage community through program outreach. Shawn is an active presence in Toronto’s cultural technology community and frequently represents the TMC at speaking engagements.
Shawn’s educational background is in technology education and history. He completed a specialized BEd in technology instruction from Brock University in 2012 and is a licensed teacher. He possesses a Masters (2011) and Bachelor (2009) Degree in history from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. Shawn was drawn to the TMC because of the high quality and bold innovation inherent in digital projects such as TXTilecity.
