One story about these little poster-sized rugs covered with weapons is that, at the time of the Soviet occupation, they were made in Pakistan refugee camps for sale to collectors or aid workers to raise money for the Afghan mujahideen. But this rug includes the name of the northern Afghanistan city Mazar-i Sharif, which implies it was made there, and not in Pakistan.
