This war rug depicts the reality of conflict-ridden Afghanistan. Over the past 30 years, hand grenades, tanks, fighter jets, missiles and helicopters replaced traditional Afghan floral designs. For centuries, rug production helped bring income to Afghan families in villages and cities; today, weaving rugs depicting the realities of war helps Afghan people survive during times of conflict. The individual makers of these rugs remain unknown.
