Date 19 janvier 2005 - 3 avril 2005
Exposition préparée par Rachel Gotlieb

Sommaire d'exposition

Crafting a Canadian Style investigates the legacy of Thor Hansen (1903-1974). As art director for the British-American Oil Company from 1948 – 1968, he coordinated the interior decoration of offices across Canada. A textile artist, designer and craft activist, Hansen pursued a Canadian design identity by encouraging the synthesis of craft, design and folk art. He commissioned hooked rugs, printed textiles, murals and decorative arts from leading Canadian artisans. Was Hansen’s vision of an arts and crafts movement that reflects Canadian identity noble or naïve?
