fibrespace

Exhibition Overview

fibrespace provides visitors an opportunity to explore the making and use of textiles like those displayed elsewhere in the Museum. fibrespace is a comfortable space where visitors (both adults and children) of any level of enthusiasm and knowledge can find something of interest. It is intended to be a place of both stimulation and relaxation with self-directed activities and opportunities to touch, handle and explore.

Additional Information

Themes covered include: knowledge of the properties of fibres, creating cloth with and without a loom, the endless possibilities of applied decoration, the use of textiles as well as their social significance. We showcase selected textiles, often related to current exhibitions allowing the ideas explored in fibrespace to enrich the visitor's experience in other Museum galleries.

fibrespace has four sections - discover fibre, discover colour, discover textiles, and discover meaning. Here you will be introduced in both a visual and tactile way to the techniques used to make a wide variety of textiles.
