Exhibition Overview
With an international collection of over 13,000 artifacts representing over 200 countries and regions and 2000 years of human history, the Textile Museum of Canada is uniquely poised to capture cultural experiences in a global context. Selected on the occasion of the Museum's 35th anniversary, the artifacts presented here are iconic expressions of celebration. From ceremonial garments, ritual attire and prayer rugs, to wedding kimonos and festival hats, each piece speaks to a universal visual language as well as the particular materials, symbols and motifs used to mark ceremony and rites of passage at distinct times and places.
