Women spinning and weaving

An important part of understanding a culture's artifacts is learning how they are made.

This section of CLOTH & CLAY looks at two perspectives of the process of making pots and textiles: How they were likely made in ancient times and how they are made today in the Americas.

Use the links to your left to learn about ancient techniques or to meet two contemporary craftspeople: a ceramic artist from Mexico whose work imaginatively combines the old and the new, and a weaver from Peru with a mission to explore and preserve traditional weaving.
