Behind the Scenes: Beadwork Conservation
The Textile Museum of Canada’s conservation department works continually to stabilize and prevent future degradation of objects in our care. This exhibition highlights a recent conservation initiative: to design and build new mounts for 150 pieces in the Museum’s collection of African beadwork. These custom, dual-function storage and display mounts are designed to protect the objects and make them more readily available for research and exhibition. Behind the Scenes: Beadwork Conservation features the goals, process, and outcomes of this rehousing project.
Funding for the project is from the Canadian Department of Heritage’s Museums Assistance Program.
