Eight four-week off-site workshops are happening between November 2018 and March 2019 as a part of Community Voices.
Community Voices is a creative partnership program administered by the Textile Museum of Canada and delivered in collaboration with social agencies in Toronto. Encouraging creative expression and skill-building for individuals from at-risk and underserved communities, Community Voices engages participants in immersive weekly four-week workshops led by local emerging and professional textile artists who design unique skills-based curriculum.
The workshops are:
Printing on Fabric led by Emily Norry at Art Heart, November 21, 2018-December 12, 2019
An Introduction to African Textile Collage led by Apanaki Temitayo M at YWCA Woodlawn January 16-February 6, 2019 and YWCA Elm February 21-March 14, 2019
Block Printing- Scarves and More! led by Apoorva Varma at Sistering, January 23-February 13, 2019
Fantastical Futures: An Introduction to Wearable Electronics led by Justice Stacey at Workman Arts, February 6-March 6, 2019
Personal Archives: Embroidery led by Yahn Nemirovsky at Triangle Program, February 26-March 5, 2019

The Community Voices workshops will culminate with an exhibition of the participants’ artworks in the Textile Museum of Canada Community Gallery in Spring 2019. Stay tuned for details!
