Shepherd's coat

Like sheepskin or fur, this heavy garment serves as an excellent shield from the weather. Long wool strands on the inside provide warmth and comfort to a shepherd who may spend cold nights in the mountains tending to sheep. The fabric is so thick and dense, a wolf or stray dog cannot bite through it.

For me, it's my so-called high performance outer wear. We used to call it an anorak. The hood folds down into a cushioned comfy collar. This question reminds me of a song by The Roches where they celebrate a winter coat and say "it's like walking around in your bed all day".
