Based on early 20th century tradition, young children in China are dressed in decorative hats, collars and shoes during festivals. Inspired by animals, these ornate accessories are believed to lead to a healthy and successful life through protecting children from evil. If a custom hat were designed for me, the animal I would choose to portray my personality traits would be the sheep.
In Chinese zodiac, the sheep (also known as goat or ram) represents those who are born every 12 years, which includes those born in 1991. As the most creative sign, people born in the Year of the Sheep are often artistic, calm, sweet and dependable. These qualities are traits that I believe I possess and embody my character.
Brilliant shades of pinks and purples are said to be favoured by the sheep sign along with corresponding gemstones such as sapphire and emerald. As sheep often display their fondness for spending time with family and close friends, incorporating Chinese embroidery that symbolizes this characteristic would also be necessary. Including these vivid details into the design of my festival hat would be ideal and would make for a one-of-a-kind creation.
